Operating System

From Computing Knowledgebase

An Operating System is a piece of software that acts as a layer between the User, the Hardware, and other Software elements.

There are many Operating Systems currently out there, and even more have been consigned to history. Linux, UNIX, Windows, MS-DOS, and even older systems like CP/M, and OS/2, have been used to facilitate the User in operating a PC.

Today, "Live CD" versions of an operating system make it easy for you to try out a new operating system, without touching the one currently on your hard drive.

Linux Live CD List

Linux is the main OS to take advantage of Live CD's, but Windows-Based Operating Systems are capable of running via a Live CD
