Windows NT 4.0, codenamed Cairo, was originally known as the Shell Update Release (SUR), and the original Goal of Windows NT 4.0 was to port the Win32 GUI used by Windows 95 to Windows NT 4.0.

Windows NT 4.0 shipped on July 31st 1996.
